Pres. Marcos Jr. extends 2025 income tax filing deadline to May 15

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has announced a 30-day extension for the filing of 2025 Annual Income Tax Returns (ITR), moving the deadline from April 15 to May 15, 2026.

The decision aims to provide Filipino taxpayers with ample time to consolidate necessary documentation and ensure accurate submissions without the fear of incurring late penalties or surcharges.

  • New Deadline: May 15, 2026

  • Purpose: To alleviate the administrative burden on citizens and provide financial breathing room amidst rising global costs.

  • Filing Methods: Taxpayers may continue to submit their returns via the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) electronic platforms or through authorized agent banks.

In a statement released via his official social media channels, President Marcos emphasized that the extension is a responsive measure to the current economic climate, specifically citing the impact of fluctuating oil prices on the daily lives of Filipinos.

“Pinalawig natin ang deadline… Mas may oras ang bawat taxpayer na makapag-file nang maayos, kasama ang lahat ng kailangang dokumento, at walang ipapataw na penalties,” President Marcos stated. (“We have extended the deadline… Every taxpayer now has more time to file properly, including all necessary documents, without penalties being imposed.”)

The President further noted that this initiative is part of a broader, ongoing effort by the administration to mitigate the challenges faced by the public. “Ginawa natin ito para mas magaan ang pagbabayad ng bawat Pilipino,” he added. (“We did this to make payment easier for every Filipino.”)

The Bureau of Internal Revenue is expected to issue supplemental guidelines to ensure a smooth transition for the extended period. Taxpayers are encouraged to utilize digital filing channels to avoid long queues at physical banks and BIR offices as the new May 15 cutoff approaches.

The administration remains committed to implementing policies that balance fiscal responsibility with empathy for the Filipino workforce.
