The Department of Energy (DOE) today announced the successful commissioning of five renewable energy (RE) projects, totaling 128.9 MW of new capacity.
As of April 17, 2026, these facilities are officially operational, marking the first wave of a strategic initiative to bring 25 RE and energy storage projects online by the end of this month.
The newly operational solar and biomass plants are strategically located in Hermosa, Taft, Cordon, and Arayat. These projects represent a significant step toward the DOE’s immediate goal of delivering 1,471 MW of total capacity by the close of April 2026. The remaining 20 projects are currently in the final stages of grid integration.
This accelerated deployment aligns with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to fast-track over 200 power projects within the next three years. The administration’s energy roadmap focuses on:
-
Enhancing Supply: Increasing the total available power to meet rising demand.
-
Improving Reserve Margins: Ensuring a buffer to prevent power outages during peak hours.
-
Energy Security: Reducing the nation’s reliance on volatile imported fuels.
Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin commended the collaborative effort between the private sector and government agencies.
“We commend the developers and all concerned agencies for moving these projects forward with urgency,” Secretary Garin stated. “Every renewable energy project brought online strengthens our path toward energy independence, reduces our exposure to imported fuel volatility, and helps secure a cleaner and more resilient power system.”
The DOE is maintaining close coordination with key power sector institutions and grid operators to ensure that the remaining capacity targeted for April is integrated without delay. This proactive approach reinforces the government’s commitment to providing reliable, sustainable, and secure energy for all Filipinos.
