The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) is proud to announce that its Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Office has successfully cleared its first surveillance audit under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS).
The audit, conducted by the international certification body Bureau Veritas, resulted in zero non-conformities, reaffirming MARINA’s unwavering commitment to regulatory excellence and global maritime standards.
This surveillance audit is a critical component of the three-year ISO re-certification cycle initiated in 2025. Having maintained its ISO 9001:2015 certification since 2019, the STCW Office continues to demonstrate its ability to meet rigorous international benchmarks.
The audit’s scope was comprehensive, covering:
-
The STCW Head Office in Manila.
-
Key MARINA Regional Offices performing delegated STCW functions.
The successful outcome validates the effectiveness of MARINA’s internal processes, ensuring that service delivery to stakeholders remains efficient, transparent, and consistent.
As the sole maritime administration tasked with implementing the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, MARINA plays a pivotal role in the career lifecycle of Filipino seafarers. By enforcing strict policies on education, training, and competency assessment, the STCW Office ensures that Filipino maritime professionals remain the gold standard for the global fleet.
“This achievement underscores our dedication to ensuring Filipino seafarers are globally competitive and aligned with international standards,” the STCW Office stated. “It further solidifies the Philippines’ standing as a responsible and proactive member state of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).”
This milestone is more than just a certificate; it is a testament to MARINA’s mission of “Safer People, Safer Ships, and Cleaner Oceans.” The STCW Office remains resolute in its pursuit of continuous improvement, striving to elevate the Philippine maritime industry through robust quality management and dedicated public service.
