In a landmark move to prioritize the well-being of the nation’s workforce, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., alongside PhilHealth President and CEO Dr. Edwin M. Mercado, spearheaded the mass enrollment of over 7,500 employees into their chosen YAKAP (Yakap para sa Kalusugan ng Pamilya) Clinics during the 124th Labor Day celebrations.
The initiative served as the centerpiece of the government’s Labor Day activities, with PhilHealth activating 70 dedicated registration booths in strategic locations across the archipelago. This massive rollout underscores the administration’s commitment to the principle that a healthy citizenry is the bedrock of sustainable national development.
Under the YAKAP program, enrolled members are granted access to a robust primary care package designed to shift the healthcare paradigm from reactive treatment to proactive prevention. Benefits include:
-
Regular Consultations: Access to primary care physicians for routine check-ups.
-
Laboratory Services: Coverage for essential diagnostic tests and medical screenings.
-
Prescription Support: Provision of medicines tailored to the specific health conditions of the member. “The health of our workers is not just a personal matter; it is the foundation of our collective progress,” President Marcos stated during the event. “By bringing these services directly to our laborers, we are rewarding their hard work with the security and peace of mind they deserve.”
Dr. Edwin M. Mercado emphasized that the expansion of YAKAP Clinics is a vital component of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act. By strengthening primary care networks, PhilHealth aims to ensure that every Filipino is “far from illness” and protected from the financial burden of unexpected medical emergencies.
In line with the administration’s digitalization agenda, PhilHealth also highlighted that the enrollment process is no longer confined to physical booths. Workers can now browse, select, and enroll in their preferred YAKAP Clinics via the eGovPH SuperApp, making healthcare management more accessible than ever.
