Restoration efforts are moving at an urgent pace across the franchise area of the South Cotabato II Electric Cooperative (SOCOTECO II) following the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake that recently struck parts of Mindanao.
As of 2:00 PM today, June 13, 2026, electricity service has been successfully restored to 93.82% of affected consumer connections.
Despite challenging ground conditions, localized damage, and safety hurdles, SOCOTECO II field crews have been working around the clock. The remaining 6.18% of affected areas consist mostly of sectors requiring extensive structural repairs or meticulous safety testing to prevent secondary hazards, such as electrical fires or grid overloads, upon re-energization.
The Department of Energy (DOE) is directly overseeing the strategy, ensuring that speed does not compromise the safety of either the utility workers or the residents.
The DOE continues to closely monitor all ongoing technical operations and is actively coordinating with energy sector stakeholders, local government units (LGUs), and task forces to deploy additional resources where needed.
Residents in areas without power are advised to keep their main breakers switched off until service is fully restored to their neighborhood to prevent sudden power surges. SOCOTECO II urges the public to report sagging lines, damaged poles, or sparking transformers immediately to their local emergency hotlines.
Regular, granular updates on specific municipality timelines will be released via SOCOTECO II’s official communication channels as milestones are reached.
