Over 25,000 runners illuminate Metro Manila in the landmark RunRio Galaxy Manila Marathon

In a spectacular display of athleticism, community, and culture, more than 25,000 running enthusiasts and elite athletes gathered at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Complex today for the RunRio Galaxy Manila Marathon, cementing its status as one of the premier and largest road races in Metro Manila.

Officially supported by the Department of Tourism (DOT), the marathon transformed the capital’s streets into a massive celebration of health and heritage, drawing local participants and international runners alike.

The event featured four distinct race categories—5K, 10K, 21K, and the flagship 42K full marathon—offering a tailored experience for casual joggers and seasoned marathoners.

  • The Ultimate Challenge (42K): The full marathon challenged runners with an ambitious course stretching from the bayside SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City all the way to SM North EDSA in Quezon City, seamlessly connecting the southern and northern hubs of the metro.

  • The Heritage Paths (5K, 10K, 21K): Shorter-distance runners were treated to a scenic cultural journey, passing by some of Manila’s most iconic historical landmarks, including:

    • The lush expanses of Rizal Park

    • The historic walled city of Intramuros

    • The symbolic Kartilya ng Katipunan monument

Through its partnership with the Department of Tourism, the RunRio Galaxy Manila Marathon served not only as a sports festival but also as a powerful showcase of the Philippines’ vibrant capital. By integrating historical landmarks into the race routes, the event offered a unique “running tour” that highlighted the rich history and modern energy of Metro Manila.

Organized by RunRio, the event featured state-of-the-art race tracking, top-tier hydration and medical stations, and a vibrant race village at the SM MOA Complex, where finishers celebrated with music, interactive booths, and exclusive finishers’ medals.

The organizers extend their deepest gratitude to the local government units, traffic management bureaus, volunteers, and sponsors who ensured a safe, smooth, and memorable race day for all.
