The Philippines and Nepal have pledged to deepen their bilateral ties and strengthen labor cooperation to better protect the rights and welfare of migrant workers.
The commitment was solidified during a bilateral meeting on June 11, 2026, held on the sidelines of the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac met with Nepal’s Minister for Youth, Labour and Employment, Ramjee Yadav, to discuss key areas of mutual interest. Both officials focused on establishing closer collaboration on fair and ethical recruitment practices, ensuring the robust protection of migrant workers’ rights, and actively promoting decent work across both nations.
To cement these shared goals, both sides officially agreed to work toward formalizing their partnership through a comprehensive bilateral labor agreement.
During the meeting, Minister Yadav expressed Nepal’s full support for the Philippines’ upcoming chairship of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue, spanning from 2026 to 2028. Highlighting the Philippines’ established reputation as a global leader in migration management, Minister Yadav also indicated Nepal’s intent to send an official delegation to the Philippines to study and learn from the country’s labor migration system.
Secretary Cacdac was joined in the high-level meeting by a delegation of Philippine officials, including DMW Undersecretary Jainal T. Rasul, Jr.; Director Jerome P. Yanson; Labor Attaché Jesus Vicente H. Magsaysay II; Ms. Lovelie Amores; and Consul Andrea Leycano of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations.
