MARINA launches “SeafarHER Awards” to honor outstanding women in the maritime industry

In celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer 2026, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has officially launched the inaugural SeafarHER Awards.

This groundbreaking recognition initiative aims to honor exceptional women whose leadership, dedication, and advocacy continue to shape and transform the Philippine maritime industry.

From commanding the bridge and managing the engine room to leading maritime organizations and training institutions, women are breaking barriers across the sector. The SeafarHER Awards seek to shine a spotlight on these trailblazers who embody excellence and resilience, inspiring the next generation of Filipino maritime professionals.

Award categories & prizes

The initiative will honor outstanding female maritime professionals in two distinct categories:

  • Leadership in Seafaring Award

  • Advocacy for Women in Maritime Award 🏆 Recognition: Winners in each category will receive an official plaque of recognition and a ₱25,000 cash prize.

MARINA invites shipping companies, maritime institutions, organizations, and individual Filipino citizens to nominate deserving candidates. To qualify for the awards, nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Nationality & Gender: Must be a female Filipino citizen.

  • Professional Status: Must be an active seafarer with at least five (5) years of sea service.

  • Track Record: Must possess a proven record of professional excellence and have made a significant impact on the industry.

  • Mentorship: Must demonstrate a clear commitment to mentoring and supporting other women within the maritime community.

Nominations will be rigorously evaluated by a panel of experts based on the following judging criteria:

Criteria Weight Description
Leadership 40% Demonstrated capability, command, and guidance in their respective roles.
Advocacy 30% Active efforts in promoting, mentoring, and supporting women in the industry.
Impact 30% Measurable contributions and lasting positive changes made to the maritime sector.
