DOE, Brightside Energy discuss strategic energy megaplex for Luzon economic corridor

The Department of Energy (DOE) recently met with executives from Brightside Energy to discuss the development of the Brightside Strategic Energy Megaplex, a mega-infrastructure project envisioned for the Luzon Economic Corridor.

DOE Undersecretary Alessandro O. Sales, alongside representatives from the Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB), hosted Brightside Energy CEO Christopher Harriman and Ms. Cory Quirino to review the ambitious project concept. The proposed megaplex aims to integrate critical energy components, including:

  • Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Infrastructure: Expanding gas receiving and distribution capabilities.

  • Power Generation Facilities: Boosting grid capacity with modern, high-efficiency power plants.

  • Energy Storage Systems (ESS): Enhancing grid stability and managing peak demand.

  • Energy Logistics Infrastructure: Streamlining the supply chain and transport of energy resources across Luzon.

The proposal directly aligns with the DOE’s overarching program to foster deeper collaboration with the private sector. By exploring high-impact investment opportunities, the department aims to accelerate the development of critical infrastructure needed to sustain the country’s rapid economic growth.

“Private sector partnerships are vital to building a more resilient, sustainable, and secure energy future for the Philippines,” said Undersecretary Sales. “Initiatives like the Brightside Strategic Energy Megaplex hold the potential to significantly bolster our national grid and support the economic momentum of the Luzon Economic Corridor.”

The DOE and Brightside Energy will continue technical discussions to evaluate the project’s feasibility, regulatory alignment, and long-term contributions to the Philippine energy roadmap.
