In a powerful demonstration of national solidarity, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) have united to honor the invaluable contributions of Filipino mariners in celebration of the International Day of the Seafarer and the Day of the Filipino Seafarer.
With every voyage, the Filipino seafarer carries the dreams of their family, the courage of the global Filipino worker, and the honor of the entire nation. Acknowledging this profound impact, both agencies came together to honor the modern-day heroes who navigate the world’s oceans despite the inherent challenges of distance, fatigue, loneliness, and the unpredictable nature of life at sea.
In her keynote message, MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan emphasized that Filipino seafarers represent far more than just labor on maritime vessels.
“Filipino seafarers are the very face of our nation’s hard work, skill, and resilience in the global shipping industry,” Malaluan stated. “Through their immense sacrifice, they do not just support their families—they strengthen local communities and serve as a vital pillar of the Philippine economy.”
The Philippines remains a dominant force in global seafaring, providing a substantial portion of the world’s maritime workforce. The joint celebration underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare, protection, and continuous professional development of these critical global workers.
On this special occasion, the DMW and MARINA reaffirm their unwavering support and sincere recognition for every Filipino sailor. The nation stands proud of its maritime workforce, which continues to sail the globe with honor, dedication, and an enduring love for family and country.
