Brokenshire Medical Center (BMC) has officially launched the BMC Heart Institute, a premier, full-spectrum cardiovascular care facility designed to serve as Mindanao’s regional referral hub.
The launch represents the latest milestone in AppleOne Medical Group’s (AMG) purpose-driven expansion of healthcare across the Visayas and Mindanao (VisMin) regions. Established in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, AMG has continuously focused on upgrading regional medical infrastructure to reduce the need for patients to travel to Manila or overseas for specialized treatment.
“At AppleOne Medical Group, our goal has always been to elevate the standard of living in VisMin through the places we build, the experiences we offer, and now, through the care we deliver,” said Ray Go Manigsaca, President and CEO of AppleOne Group. “Establishing AMG in 2020 was a bold step… Today, we are even closer to bringing world-class healthcare closer to home.”
The BMC Heart Institute addresses a critical gap in Mindanao’s medical landscape by offering integrated cardiac services that span the entire continuum of care. The facility brings together top cardiologists and a multidisciplinary team to provide:
-
Preventive Care & Non-Invasive Diagnostics: Early screenings and advanced cardiac imaging.
-
Invasive & Interventional Cardiology: Complex procedures including Diagnostic Coronary Angiography, Angioplasty, and Coronary Stenting.
-
Recovery & Management: Dedicated cardiac rehabilitation and long-term chronic disease management.
To streamline the patient experience, the institute introduces a Heart Care Coordinator system. This program assigns dedicated coordinators to guide patients smoothly through every stage of their medical journey, from initial consultation to discharge and follow-up care.
The BMC Heart Institute serves Davao City while extending its reach to Western Mindanao, Northern Mindanao, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), and surrounding provinces.
The launch aligns with AMG’s broader strategy to scale healthcare accessibility. The group currently operates three flagship hospitals across VisMin: VisayasMed in Cebu, United Shalom in Tacloban, and Brokenshire Medical Center in Davao. Moving forward, AMG plans to expand these capabilities through a hub-and-spoke network, establishing satellite care centers within a 50-kilometer radius of each flagship hospital.
Founded in 1917 and now managed by AMG, Brokenshire Medical Center has a long history of pioneering healthcare in the region. The Heart Institute joins a portfolio of specialized services at BMC, which includes:
-
The region’s first hospital-based multidisciplinary center for children with special needs (CANDEV).
-
The first and only In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Laboratory in Mindanao.
The formal opening of the Heart Institute on June 27, 2026, capped off a week of introductory events. These included a Corporate Launch for business partners on June 16, an internal launch for medical staff on June 25, and a public Heart and Wellness Fair on June 26 aimed at promoting heart health awareness across the Davao community.
