Pres. Marcos Jr. meets with B2Gold and Filminera executives in Canada

On the sidelines of his Official Visit to Canada, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with top executives from B2Gold Corporation and Filminera Resources Corporation to discuss a planned investment of approximately USD 14 million (approx. PhP 800 million) aimed at expanding sustainable energy and exploration programs at the Masbate Gold Project.

The multi-million dollar investment will primarily fund a major solar plant expansion at the Masbate site, alongside a suite of ongoing exploration initiatives. During the high-level meeting, B2Gold executives formally presented President Marcos with a letter committing the company—subject to future agreements—to provide specialized technical and exploration expertise. This collaboration aims to evaluate new opportunities to significantly extend the overall mine life of the Masbate operations.

In addition to infrastructure upgrades, the executives updated the President on new exploration initiatives spearheaded by the newly established B2Gold Philippines Exploration Office.

Corporate leaders noted that the decision to open the dedicated office stems from the company’s highly positive operational experience in the Philippines and signals deep, continued confidence in the nation’s mining and investment sector.

The Masbate Gold Project continues to serve as a cornerstone of socio-economic growth in the region. In 2025 alone, the operation generated over PhP 10 billion in taxes for both local and national governments. This sustained economic influx has fundamentally transformed the host town of Aroroy, elevating it from a fourth-class municipality into a thriving, first-class community.

Beyond direct tax revenues, the project continues to drive local development by funding critical public infrastructure, providing educational assistance, and creating specialized training opportunities for local scholars.
