MARINA strengthens maritime governance towards digitalization, green shipping

Aiming to address the rapid technological advancement and green transition in shipping through maritime governance, the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), through its Overseas Shipping Service (OSS) conducted its Second Lecture Series.

Held on July 3, 2026 at their Central Office with the theme “Preparing for the Next Wave: Maritime Administrations and the Future of Maritime Governance,” Mr. Andreas Nordseth, Senior Adviser – Team Leader of the European Union (EU) – ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package (SCOPE), Seafarers – Technical Assistance led the discussion regarding the challenges of technology and global change as well as managing digital and green transition in the maritime administration.

In his presentation, Mr. Nordseth reminded the participants that the best and only way to find solutions to challenges that the administration has been encountering due to modernization and decarbonization is to “do the right things right”.

The lecture series was attended by representatives from the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Energy – Energy Utilization Management Bureau (DOE-EUMB), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), University of the Philippines (UP), EU-SCOPE, and MARINA.
