President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to expanding and modernizing the Port of Lucena to keep pace with the rapidly surging passenger and cargo traffic across Calabarzon and neighboring regions.
During an inspection of the port’s new Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) in Barangay Talao-Talao, President Marcos highlighted the critical role infrastructure plays in driving local commerce and regional mobility.
“When we build infrastructure, no matter the scale, it eventually reaches full capacity sooner than expected. That is a good sign—it means commerce is thriving in the region, in Lucena, in Quezon, and across all surrounding ports,” President Marcos stated.
The Port of Lucena serves as a vital maritime hub connecting Southern Luzon to Marinduque, Masbate City, and Romblon, handling approximately 500,000 travelers annually.
To enhance efficiency and passenger comfort, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) funded the PhP153.43 million upgrade through its corporate budget. Set to be fully operational by next month, the modern facility is designed to provide safe, comfortable temporary shelter for travelers, particularly during adverse weather conditions when sea travel is suspended.
