Six Filipino seafarers from the Liberia-flagged oil/product tanker M/V Al Bahyah (IMO No. 9937799) returned safely to Manila today, arriving at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 via Qatar Airways Flight QR934 following a security incident in the Strait of Hormuz.
Upon arrival, the returning crew members were received and assisted by representatives from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), who provided immediate financial aid and reintegration assistance.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) Medical Team conducted on-site medical evaluations. Five of the seafarers returned unharmed, while one crew member who sustained a minor injury received prompt medical attention. Representatives from their licensed manning agency, BSM Crew Service Centre Philippines Inc., were also on hand to facilitate their reception.
All six crew members were safely rescued after the M/V Al Bahyah was involved in a security event while navigating the Strait of Hormuz.
In response to the incident, the DMW reiterated its firm directive to all licensed manning agencies and accredited foreign principals to strictly enforce mandatory security measures and comply with active maritime advisories. The department emphasized that total adherence to established safety directives remains critical to safeguarding the lives and welfare of Filipino seafarers operating in high-risk zones worldwide.
