The Marcos administration is significantly stepping up efforts to overhaul and modernize the national transportation network through massive investments in key infrastructure projects, including major railway lines, bus rapid transit (BRT) systems, airports, seaports, and integrated transport hubs across the country.
During his State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. highlighted major upcoming milestones in the country’s public transit system, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering faster, safer, and more comfortable travel options for millions of Filipino commuters.
Key transit developments announced by the President include:

North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR): Commuter rail service between Valenzuela and Malolos is slated to begin operations next year. The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is actively targeting full completion of the extended line to Clark before the conclusion of President Marcos’ term in 2028.

MRT-7 Operations: Twelve key stations of the MRT-7 line will open next year, marking the country’s first new Metro Rail Transit line in nearly 30 years. Initially running from North Avenue to Sacred Heart in Quezon City before expanding to San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, the line is projected to serve nearly one million daily passengers.

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Networks: The first phase of the Cebu BRT is already operational, providing crucial urban mobility, while the Ilocos Norte BRT is scheduled to be inaugurated next year.
Addressing persistent delay factors, President Marcos credited the newly enacted Accelerated and Reformed Right of Way Act for streamlined land acquisitions, significantly reducing a historical bottleneck for nationwide infrastructure development.
President Marcos emphasized that rising fuel costs have prompted more Filipinos to rely on public transit, making network improvements vital to national economic productivity.
“Kaya pinagtutuunan ng mabuti ng Administrasyon ang ating mga tren, mga busways, transport hubs at integrated terminals, at ang pagpapaganda at pagpapalawak ng mga paliparan at pantalan sa buong bansa. Ito ay upang mas malawak at malayo ang naaabot, tumaas ang kapasidad, at maging moderno at mas maginhawa ang serbisyo,” President Marcos stated.
With expanded capacities, enhanced connectivity, and modernized transport hubs, the administration continues to lay the groundwork for long-term economic growth and seamless regional accessibility.
