The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) recently hosted representatives of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Uzbekistan at its Central Office to discuss potential employment avenues for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), along with key measures to ensure their protection and welfare.
During the courtesy call, Honorary Consul of the Philippines to Uzbekistan Bekhbat Sodnom and Selenge Lkhagvasuren presented potential opportunities arising from Uzbekistan’s growing demand for foreign professionals, particularly in the education sector. The delegation highlighted that Uzbekistan currently has over 10,000 public schools and is actively seeking more than 600 English teachers, offering competitive monthly salaries reported at USD 2,000.
Representing the DMW, Undersecretary Jainal T. Rasul, Jr. underscored the Philippine government’s commitment to prioritizing worker safety and standard labor practice as bilateral labor discussions continue to develop.
“Ensuring that OFWs in Uzbekistan receive adequate protection, fair employment standards, and robust support systems for their concerns remains our top priority,” stated Undersecretary Rasul.
The meeting marks a constructive step toward expanding bilateral ties and exploring safe, sustainable foreign employment pathways for Filipino professionals.
