SMX Convention Centers posts strong H1 2026 growth driven by robust MICE demand

MX Convention Centers, the conferences and exhibitions arm of SM Prime Holdings, Inc. (SM Prime), continues its strong upward growth trajectory as demand for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) remains robust nationwide.

In the first half of 2026, SMX venues welcomed 4.3 million visitors, marking an 18% increase from 3.6 million visitors recorded in the same period last year.

“Our locations within SM Prime’s larger mixed-use developments give event organizers and attendees direct access to dining, accommodation, and transportation options, making events more convenient and attractive,” said Peggy E. Angeles, Executive Vice President of SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. (SMHCC).

Across its nationwide network, SMX Convention Centers successfully hosted 807 booked events during the first six months of the year. SMX Convention Center Manila led the portfolio in visitor volume, recording over 2.5 million guests. Regional destinations, including SMX Convention Center Davao, SMX Convention Center Bacolod, and SMX Convention Center Clark, also demonstrated healthy growth in visitor traffic.

Major national and international events hosted in H1 2026 included:

  • WORLDBEX 2026

  • International Travel Expo

  • Philippine Pet Expo 2026

  • ALT Philippines

  • Interior Design Manila

  • BeautyCon 2026

  • Franchise Asia Philippines International Franchise Expo

Building on its strong first-half performance, SMX is accelerating its expansion plans with major new developments in Cebu and Metro Manila.

“Our strong first-half performance supports our ongoing expansion. We are excited to add new capacity in Cebu and Metro Manila,” Angeles added.

  • SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu (Opening Q4 2026): Set to become the Philippines’ largest convention center upon completion in late 2026. Located adjacent to the newly launched SM Arena Seaside Cebu and directly linked to SM Seaside City Cebu via a pedestrian bridge, the venue anchors a premier integrated MICE, entertainment, and retail hub in the Visayas region.

  • SMXCITE in Pasay City (Opening Early 2027): Slated to open in early 2027, this 18,000-square-meter facility has already initiated booking negotiations with major event organizers. Featuring 900 parking spaces, an elevated walkway direct to SM Mall of Asia, and close proximity to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and surrounding premium hotels, SMXCITE is tailored for premier local and international gatherings.

Upon completion of these additions, SMX’s footprint will expand to seven convention centers and six trade halls across the Philippines, bringing its total combined leasable space to over 90,000 square meters.
