In swift response to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Transportation (DOTr), in partnership with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and key government agencies, has officially rolled out a free ride program to assist stranded and affected commuters navigating severe weather conditions.
Led by DOTr Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez, the initiative deploys approximately 46 transport units operating daily from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. across critical routes. The program is designed to bridge transportation gaps and provide reliable relief to citizens facing commute challenges due to ongoing heavy rains.
To guarantee orderly operations and public safety, the LTFRB—under the guidance of Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II—has mobilized its Law Enforcement Unit (LEU). LEU personnel are stationed along key corridors to monitor transit flow, deliver direct passenger assistance, and maintain safety protocols throughout the rollout.
The free ride program underscores a unified, multi-agency commitment to public welfare, ensuring that commuters can reach their destinations safely, smoothly, and conveniently despite adverse weather disruptions.
