PPA announces temporary suspension of Pasacao-Burias Island Ferry voyages due to inclement weather

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has issued an advisory regarding the temporary suspension of maritime operations for two vessels operated by Starhorse Shipping Lines, Inc., effective August 28, 2026.

The affected vessels—the MV “Virgen de Peñafrancia I” and MV “Virgen de Peñafrancia II”—have halted operations on their designated route connecting Pasacao, Camarines Sur and San Pascual, Burias Island, Masbate (vice versa).

Key details of the suspension:
  • Reason: Prevailing bad weather conditions and rough seas brought on by the Southwest Wind.

  • Impact: A total of 15 passengers and 4 cargo trucks are currently stranded and experiencing travel delays at the Pasacao Port.

  • Resumption Date: According to Starhorse Shipping Lines management, regular voyages along this route are scheduled to resume August 29, 2026, pending favorable weather improvements.

The PPA is closely monitoring the situation at the port to ensure the safety and welfare of the delayed travelers. Affected passengers and logistics operators are advised to stay tuned for weather updates and coordinate directly with the shipping line for ticketing, rebooking, and specific departure schedules.

  • PPA Hotline / Information Desk: Available on-site at Pasacao Port for immediate assistance.

  • Starhorse Shipping Lines Contact: Passengers are encouraged to reach out to the shipping line’s local ticketing office or customer service hotline for direct inquiries regarding their transit status.

The PPA reiterates that safety at sea remains its top priority and urges all travelers and mariners to heed weather advisories before heading to the ports.
