In response to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to minimize the impact of the upcoming EDSA Rebuild project, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have jointly unveiled a comprehensive traffic management and commuter support plan.
The coordinated intervention aims to ensure safe and efficient mobility for both motorists and commuters while construction is underway along EDSA, Metro Manila’s busiest thoroughfare.
Key measures include:
-
Free Toll Access: Select segments of the Skyway Stage 3 will be toll-free to serve as an alternate route and alleviate congestion along EDSA.
-
Expanded Bus Services: An additional 100 buses will be deployed to strengthen the EDSA Busway system, maintaining reliable service for commuters.
-
Increased MRT-3 Capacity: More train sets will be added to accommodate higher passenger demand during the construction period.
-
Odd-Even Traffic Scheme: An odd-even vehicle coding scheme will be implemented along EDSA to reduce traffic volume.
-
Clearing of Alternate Routes: Obstructions along designated alternate roads will be removed to improve traffic flow.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon confirmed that the dedicated EDSA Busway will remain operational throughout the project, ensuring uninterrupted mass transit services.
Meanwhile, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan announced that preparatory work for the EDSA Rebuild is scheduled to begin on June 13, 2025.
The government urges the public to stay informed and cooperate with the upcoming changes to help ensure the success of the EDSA Rebuild and minimize inconvenience for all road users.
