BSP reports continued growth in personal remittances

Personal remittances from Overseas Filipinos (OFs) continued their upward trend in April 2025, demonstrating the resilience and vital contribution of Filipinos working abroad to the nation’s economy. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported an increase in both land-based and sea-based OF remittances, sustaining the growth witnessed earlier in the year.

In April 2025, personal remittances reached US$2.97 billion, marking a 4.1 percent increase from the US$2.86 billion recorded in April 2024. This consistent growth underscores the steady flow of support from Filipinos globally.

For the cumulative period of January to April 2025, personal remittances rose by 3.0 percent, reaching US$12.37 billion compared to US$12.01 billion in the same period last year.

Cash remittances, which are coursed through banks, also showed robust performance. These remittances amounted to US$2.66 billion in April 2025, a 4.0 percent increase from US$2.56 billion in April 2024. Cumulatively, cash remittances for January-April 2025 totaled US$11.11 billion, a 3.0 percent rise from US$10.78 billion recorded in the first four months of 2024.

The significant growth in remittances during January-April 2025 was primarily driven by higher contributions from Overseas Filipinos in the United States (U.S.), Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The U.S. remained the largest source of total cash remittances during this period, followed by Singapore and Saudi Arabia.

The sustained inflow of remittances continues to be a crucial component of the Philippines’ balance of payments and a key driver of domestic consumption and economic activity.
