Philippine-registered overseas fleet now at 97, declining over the years – MARINA data

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has registered a total of 97 Philippine overseas fleet as of end June this year, showing a  gradual decline over the years from 116 in 2014.

The MARINA data showed that the latest list of Philippine-registered overseas fleet (PROF) have combined GRT (Gross Register Tonnage), which measures a ship’s total volume, of 1,765,773.

Based on type of service, the MARINA data showed that 46 out of 97 PROF were general cargo vessels. The rest were bulk carrier 34, tanker 16 and cable layer 1. These ocean-going carriers have an average age of five years.

As of end December 2024, MARINA data showed a total of 94 Philippine-registered overseas fleet with total GRT of 1,660,800.  The type of vessels comprised of 47 general cargo, 31 bulk carriers, 15 tankers, and one cable layer with average age of five years.

Way back end 2014, MARINA had a total of 116 PROF with combined GRT of 2,712,732. These vessels were comprised of 27 general cargo, 61 bulk carrier, 12 tanker, 1 RO-RO, 8 livestock carrier, 1 cart/vehicle carrier, one dry cargo, 2 container carrier, and 3 multi-purpose dry cargo.

In December  2020, the number of PROF slid to 100 and further down to 98 end of December 2023.

MARINA is the agency responsible for regulating and promoting the development of this fleet.
