Davaoeños can anticipate a significant upgrade to their public transportation system with the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DavaoBus Project), now slated to begin pilot operations in 2027. This accelerated timeline follows a direct directive from the President, emphasizing the urgent need to fast-track this transformative initiative.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon recently inspected the project’s construction site in Calinan District, underscoring the government’s renewed commitment. “The President is truly disappointed with the delays, which is why he instructed us to fast-track this project,” Secretary Dizon stated. “We need to stop making excuses and start solving problems, because this project is a game-changer and will be a model system for the entire country.”
The DavaoBus Project’s pilot operations will launch on a crucial route, traversing Catalunan Pequeño-Ulas-Bangkal-Matina-Bankerohan-Quirino-Bajada-Lanang-Buhangin-Sasa. This initial phase will allow for thorough testing and refinement of the system before a full rollout.
Pioneering Road Safety: Philippines’ First Bus Driving Academy
A cornerstone of the DavaoBus Project’s preparation is the establishment of the DavaoBus Driving Academy. This groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind in the Philippines, aims to professionalize public transport driving, ensuring enhanced safety for both commuters and motorists on the city’s roads.
“The days of inadequate driver training are over,” explained Secretary Dizon. “The President has specifically instructed that all DavaoBus drivers receive sufficient training to guarantee the safety of passengers and other motorists.” The academy’s construction marks a critical turning point for the 672-kilometer DavaoBus project, which had experienced delays in recent years. This dedicated training facility will play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of operational excellence and passenger well-being.
The DavaoBus Project is poised to deliver a modern, efficient, and safe public transport experience, setting a new benchmark for urban mobility across the Philippines.
