The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has instructed the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, to extend immediate assistance to passengers affected by an escalator malfunction at FPJ Station on August 15.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized that LRMC must prioritize the reliability and safety of LRT-1 facilities to ensure the welfare of commuters.
One female passenger was brought to a hospital for evaluation and was discharged within two hours. Six other passengers received first aid at FPJ Station and opted to go home.
As of 9:30 a.m. yesterday, the affected escalator has been repaired and cleared for safe public use.
The DOTr assures the public that it will continue to work closely with LRMC to prevent similar incidents and uphold the highest standards of commuter safety.
