PAL finalizes preparations for first Airbus A350-1000 delivery

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is advancing its fleet modernization with the upcoming delivery of the first of nine new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, a key component of the airline’s long-haul strategy. The flag carrier recently provided a glimpse into the progress of the plane, which is currently in its final assembly stages at the Airbus facility in Toulouse, France.

This state-of-the-art aircraft, featuring a three-class configuration and seating for 382 passengers, is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2025. It will serve as a “fleet game-changer” for PAL, significantly boosting capacity and enabling the airline to serve its most in-demand ultra-long-haul routes.

“We’re happy to share with you a glimpse into our very first A350-1000,” said PAL President and Chief Operating Officer Richard Nuttall. “We’re set to take delivery of the plane in the fourth quarter of 2025. This fleet game-changer will significantly boost PAL’s passenger capacity and reinforce our commitment to delivering world-class service.”

The new A350-1000s will be deployed on PAL’s premier transpacific and transpolar routes connecting Manila with key destinations in North America, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto. These new jets, known for their superior fuel efficiency and reduced carbon emissions, will complement PAL’s existing A350-900 fleet and strengthen its position as a major player in long-haul aviation.

PAL Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Atty. Carlos Luis Fernandez underscored the strategic importance of the acquisition, stating, “We selected the A350-1000 because it will provide us with the flexibility to balance demand with capacity. The new-generation aircraft are central to responding to the demands of our growing market, regionally and internationally.”

The A350-1000 is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines and offers a range of up to 8,700 nautical miles, making it ideal for some of the world’s longest commercial flights. With the addition of eight more A350-1000s to be delivered through 2028, PAL is on track to operate one of the youngest and most modern widebody fleets in Asia.
