AirAsia Philippines redefines cabin crew recruitment with focus on talent, not appearances

AirAsia Philippines is redefining its cabin crew recruitment process, shifting the focus from traditional formal attire and full makeup to a more inclusive, skill-based approach. The airline, recently named the World’s Best Low-Cost Cabin Crew by Skytrax for the eighth consecutive year, is pioneering a new recruitment strategy that prioritizes an applicant’s talent, attitude, and skills over their appearance.

From August 20 to 29, 2025, AirAsia Philippines will host walk-in recruitment events every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aspiring cabin crew members can attend in a simple, cost-friendly uniform: a white T-shirt and jeans. Male applicants should wear rubber shoes, while female candidates should wear a denim skirt and heels. This relaxed dress code is part of a larger initiative to create a more realistic and service-oriented selection process.

“We are reimagining the way we do our recruitment process to focus more on the essentials—talent, attitude, and skills needed to become a successful cabin crew,” said AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Suresh Bangah. “By changing the game, we also wish to take part in the purposeful journeys of cabin crew aspirants who are deserving to live the sky-high dream.”

During the selection process, candidates will participate in a more immersive experience designed to showcase a “day in the life” of an AirAsia Allstar, giving them a taste of the company’s culture and work environment. Applicants will be screened based on their service and guest-oriented approach, moving away from a traditional runway-style assessment.

AirAsia is also expanding its applicant pool, welcoming not only college graduates but also high school graduates. Fluency in English and Filipino is a plus, with multilingual candidates being highly encouraged to apply.

Future Allstars are required to bring an updated CV or resume and a recent, non-AI-generated photo. They must also be ready to showcase their “sweetest smiles” and meet a minimum height requirement proportional to their Body Mass Index (BMI).

This marks the fourth open-day recruitment this year, with AirAsia Philippines continuing to pool for intake requirements for the remainder of 2025 and into next year.
