The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) announced the successful deployment of a four-car Dalian train set, significantly increasing passenger capacity and improving travel efficiency during peak hours. This marks the first time a four-car train from the Dalian fleet has been put into service, a direct result of a presidential directive to enhance the speed and convenience of public transport.
The deployment follows the successful completion of rigorous safety and performance checks on another Dalian train set. The addition of the fourth car to the train increases its total capacity by an estimated 500 passengers per trip, a critical development for addressing the high volume of commuters.
“The deployment of this four-car train is a major step forward in our commitment to provide a faster and more convenient commute for all Filipinos,” said DOTr Sec. Vince Dizon. “This expanded capacity is particularly crucial during the busiest parts of the day, directly targeting the long queues and congestion that commuters face every morning and evening.”
The new train configuration is specifically aimed at alleviating the passenger influx during the daily rush hours, from 7:00-9:00 AM and 5:00-7:00 PM. By increasing the number of available train cars, the MRT-3 is poised to reduce waiting times and improve the overall boarding experience for thousands of passengers.
This initiative is part of the ongoing comprehensive rehabilitation program for the MRT-3, which includes track upgrades, the restoration of trains, and the modernization of stations and signaling systems. The program’s goal is to restore the line to its original design capacity and provide a world-class railway service for the public.
