DOTr partners with local airlines to provide free transport of relief goods to Cebu earthquake victims

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), through the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), has directed local air carriers to provide free transport of humanitarian relief goods to areas affected by the recent magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu. This swift action is in direct response to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to government agencies to fast-track the delivery of assistance to Filipinos impacted by the disaster.

In an official advisory, the CAB announced that the initiative is designed to bolster ongoing humanitarian efforts by utilizing available cargo space on air carriers. This transport is subject to the airlines’ established safety procedures and operational limitations.

Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez expressed deep gratitude to the participating carriers.

“We thank our local airlines for supporting our goal to deliver aid to those affected by the earthquake quickly. Because of this, we can, in some way, alleviate the suffering of our countrymen,” Acting Secretary Lopez said.

The DOTr specifically acknowledged the immediate support from Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and AirAsia in this critical undertaking.

The advisory for local airlines is effective immediately and will remain in force for 30 days, unless operational needs necessitate its lifting or extension sooner.
