The Department of Transportation (DOTr), alongside the Greater Capital Railway Consortium (GCR) and Acciona-DL E&C JV (ADJV), officially launched the construction phase of a crucial extradosed bridge in San Fernando, Pampanga. This groundbreaking marks a significant milestone for the North-South Commuter Railway Extension Project (NSCR-Ex), bringing the government closer to delivering on its promise of modern, convenient public transportation.
The 300-meter modern cable-stayed structure, set to rise as a new landmark in Pampanga, is designed not only to connect communities but also to significantly ease local traffic congestion, bridging the gap for more sustainable and convenient travel options.
The start of construction follows the successful resolution of key right-of-way and civil works issues that had caused a four-year delay. This vital progress was spearheaded by the Right-of-Way and Site Acquisition (ROWSA) team, led by DOTr Assistant Secretary Irish Cunanan Calaguas, under the direction of Acting Transport Secretary Giovanni Lopez and former DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon, with strong support from the local governments of Pampanga and San Fernando.
“This bridge is not just another infrastructure. It is a symbol of progress, resilience, and collaboration,” said DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways Eduardo Macabulos. “It’s tagged as a vital link of the railway alignment bringing us one step closer to our shared vision of a safe, reliable, and modern commuter rail for millions of Filipinos.”
The construction of the extradosed bridge, which falls under the Malolos-Clark Railway Project (CP N-02), is targeted for completion in August 2027. Once fully completed, the bridge will be an integral part of the expansive 147-kilometer North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project, spanning across Region III, the National Capital Region (NCR), and Region IV. The entire NSCR system is projected to serve up to 800,000 passengers daily.
This initiative is directly aligned with the President’s directive to expedite the completion of flagship infrastructure projects, ensuring comfortable and convenient travel options for the Filipino public.
