Airbus forecasts massive demand for 19,560 new passenger aircraft in Asia-Pacific

The Asia-Pacific region is set to drive nearly half of the world’s new passenger aircraft demand over the coming decades, according to a presentation by Anand Stanley, President and Head of Region, Airbus Asia-Pacific.

Stanley revealed that the region, which includes the rapidly growing markets of China and India, will require 19,560 new passenger aircraft. This figure represents a staggering 46% of the total global demand for new passenger aircraft.

The forecast underscores the sustained and unprecedented growth of air travel across the Asia-Pacific. The demand is heavily concentrated in the single-aisle, or narrowbody, segment, which is expected to account for the vast majority of new deliveries.

Key Demand Breakdown:

Narrowbody Aircraft: 16,080 aircraft

Widebody Aircraft: 3,480 aircraft

“The sheer scale of this forecast highlights the Asia-Pacific region as the single most critical driver for the future of global aviation,” said Anand Stanley. “Rapid urbanization, a growing middle class, and increasing connectivity within and across the region are fueling this need for thousands of new, fuel-efficient aircraft. Airbus is uniquely positioned to meet this demand across both our A320 Family and our widebody lines.”

The strong requirement for narrowbody aircraft like the A320neo Family reflects the need for high-frequency, short- to medium-haul routes that connect major hubs and emerging cities. Simultaneously, the demand for widebodies, including aircraft like the A330neo and A350 Families, indicates an expansion of international and long-haul travel, connecting Asia-Pacific to the rest of the world.
