The Port Management Office (PMO) Davao has provided crucial relief assistance to its personnel in the provinces of Davao Oriental and Davao de Oro following the recent Magnitude 7.4 earthquake that severely impacted the region.
Staff from the ports of Maco, Pantukan, Banaybanay, San Isidro, and Mati received essential relief packages. The aid included vital provisions such as rice, water, canned goods, noodles, coffee, milk, and bread, providing immediate support to families affected by the disaster. The timely distribution was particularly impactful, as one recipient noted that the initiative was a “big help, especially since most of the stores in their area were closed.”
Port Facilities Cleared After Inspection
In parallel with the relief efforts, the Port Police immediately conducted thorough inspections of all port facilities to assess and confirm their structural integrity following the main quake and a subsequent aftershock on October 10.
The inspections confirmed that all facilities are safe and sustained no further damage, ensuring that the ports remain operational and secure for essential maritime activities.
PMO Davao, along with the Terminal Office of Mati, is continuing to coordinate closely with local government units (LGUs) to plan and execute the next phases of disaster response and recovery for the communities they serve.
