Pres. Marcos Jr. prioritizes safety, orders 24/7 rescue and relief efforts after Davao Oriental earthquake

The safety and well-being of all residents affected by the powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Davao Oriental on October 10 remains the top priority of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., according to Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Dave Gomez on Saturday.

Secretary Gomez confirmed that the President has issued firm directives to all relevant frontline government agencies to mobilize around-the-clock rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.

“The President’s paramount concern is the safety and well-being of our people in the earthquake-struck areas,” the PCO chief stated. “On the instructions of the President, all concerned frontline agencies were tasked to work round the clock to provide rescue and relief operations.”

Furthermore, President Marcos has instructed government bodies to extend comprehensive assistance to all areas impacted by the recent seismic activity.

The public is also advised to remain vigilant. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) clarified that the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Davao Oriental is not connected to the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Cebu on September 30, underscoring that each event is being monitored separately by seismology experts.

The government continues to coordinate efforts to ensure immediate aid, shelter, and medical support are available to those displaced or injured.
