SSS urges public vigilance against scammers peddling fake “New Senior Citizen Benefits”

The Social Security System (SSS) issued an urgent public warning against proliferating online scams that falsely advertise the availability of “new benefits” for senior citizens. The SSS stresses that these materials—often in the form of deceptive videos, articles, and social media posts—are malicious attempts by unscrupulous individuals to steal personal and financial information.

The SSS has become aware of a growing number of online content, particularly on social media platforms, that claims to announce special, recently enacted benefits, pensions, or financial assistance for elderly members. These posts invariably include links to unofficial online forms or websites designed to harvest sensitive personal data.

In a statement, SSS stated, “We are alerting all our members, especially our revered senior citizens, to exercise extreme caution and be highly critical of any unsolicited information regarding new benefits. These are classic phishing scams. The SSS is not currently offering any unannounced, special ‘new benefits’ for senior citizens that require immediate registration or the submission of personal details through unofficial links.”

Crucial warnings to the public:

DO NOT Click Unofficial Links: Avoid clicking on any links embedded in social media posts, videos, or articles that promise new SSS benefits or require urgent registration. These links often lead to phishing sites designed to look legitimate but are created solely to steal your data.

NEVER Give Personal Information: The SSS will NEVER ask members to submit sensitive personal information such as your Social Security Number (SSN), My.SSS account login credentials, bank account details, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs) through unverified online forms, text messages, or unofficial email.

Be Critical and Verify: Always verify any information about SSS benefits, programs, or adjustments directly through the official SSS channels before taking any action.

Members are strongly advised to refer only to the following official channels for accurate and verified information:

Official Website: [www.sss.gov.ph]

Official Facebook Page: [Philippine Social Security System]

My.SSS Account: Log in directly through the official website or the SSS Mobile App.

SSS Call Center: (02) 8145-8888 (or other official numbers)

Local SSS Branch: Visit any SSS branch in person.

“Protecting your personal information is your first line of defense against scammers. We urge the public to be vigilant. The SSS is working closely with the relevant government agencies to track down and prosecute the individuals behind these fraudulent activities. Help us by reporting any suspicious video, article, or online form immediately.”

Members who have fallen victim to these scams or have information about fixers and fraudsters are encouraged to report to the SSS Special Investigation Department (SID) via email at [fid@sss.gov.ph] or through the official contact numbers.
