The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) on November 5 joined the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), and the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev) in the ceremonial signing of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the recently enacted Konektadong Pinoy Act (KPA).
During the event held at the office of the DICT, the PCC reinforced its commitment in providing its expertise to DICT and NTC in the implementation of the law through the inter-agency technical working group for the development of an access list and the crafting of a spectrum management policy framework, among others.
The KPA seeks to bridge the country’s digital divide by strengthening data transmission infrastructure and removing barriers to competition in the data transmission industry.
Under the KPA, the DICT, in coordination with the NTC, PCC, DEPDev, Department of Public Works and Highways, and Department of the Interior and Local Government, is tasked with promulgating the implementing rules within 90 days from the effectivity of the law and after consultations with stakeholders.

“Now that the door has been opened to the potential entry of new firms, the Filipino people are brought a step closer to lower prices, expanded options, higher quality of goods and services, and all the other benefits of a truly competitive market,” said PCC Executive Director Kenneth Tanate.
The PCC affirms its continued collaboration with government partners to ensure that the KPA leads to more affordable data services, enhanced service quality, and wider access to reliable internet across the country.
