NAIA issues passenger advisory regarding mandatory Airbus A320 safety inspections

The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has issued a passenger advisory regarding mandatory global safety inspections currently being undertaken by several airlines on a portion of their Airbus A320 aircraft fleet.

These proactive and mandatory safety checks, initiated globally as part of standard aviation safety directives, are being conducted by specific airlines operating at NAIA. While these necessary inspections are in progress, they may lead to temporary adjustments in the flight schedules of the affected carriers.

While overall NAIA operations remain normal and continue as scheduled, passengers should be aware that the following possible service adjustments are being managed directly by their respective airlines:

  • Revised Schedules and Delays: Certain flights may operate with temporarily revised departure or arrival times, or experience short-notice delays.

  • Aircraft Substitution: To maintain service continuity, airlines may deploy different aircraft types (e.g., a larger or smaller model) to service routes typically flown by the A320.

  • Flight Cancellations: A limited number of flights may be subject to cancellation to accommodate the inspection timeline.

NAIA strongly advises all passengers to proactively confirm their travel details before proceeding to the airport to mitigate any potential inconvenience.

All travellers are strictly advised to adhere to the following steps:

  1. Confirm Flight Status: Immediately confirm the status of your flight (departure time, gate, and aircraft type) directly with your airline via their official website, mobile application, or customer service hotline prior to travelling to NAIA.

  2. Monitor Official Announcements: Closely monitor and follow all official announcements provided by your airline through SMS, email, mobile app notifications, or official website updates.

  3. Follow Rebooking Guidance: If your flight is affected, follow your airline’s specific guidance on rebooking, rerouting, or refund arrangements.

  4. Avoid Unnecessary Travel: Do not proceed to the airport if your airline has already confirmed that your flight is cancelled or if you have not yet received a revised itinerary.

  5. Plan Extra Time: Allow for extra time for check-in and security processes, particularly during peak travel periods, as airport congestion may fluctuate due to these adjustments.

These ongoing inspections are a testament to the global aviation industry’s unwavering commitment to the highest standards of passenger safety and airworthiness. They are necessary and proactive measures in line with international regulatory requirements.

NAIA management is in continuous coordination with all operating airlines and aviation authorities to monitor the situation and support efforts to minimize disruption.

Airlines will continue to provide immediate and specific updates as their respective inspection programs are completed and new information becomes available.
