The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced today that domestic airline operations have fully normalized following temporary disruptions caused by a global system upgrade affecting Airbus A320 and A321 air fleets worldwide.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez confirmed the full stabilization of services after inspecting operations at NAIA Terminal 3 this Saturday. The Secretary specifically commended local air carriers for their swift and decisive action in prioritizing passenger welfare.
The global system upgrade, which involved approximately 6,000 A320 and A321 air fleets, temporarily affected 93 local flights—82 of which were cancelled and 11 delayed—impacting an estimated 14,000 passengers nationwide.
Secretary Lopez noted that the airlines immediately informed affected passengers and provided comprehensive support, including food and drinks, free rebooking options, full refunds, and flight e-vouchers.
The actions taken were in line with the direct mandate of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who ordered authorities to ensure that all affected passengers were kept safe and comfortable throughout the period of disruption.
“What the President leaves us should ensure that our passengers are safe and provide them with necessities such as food and drinks while waiting for flights. That’s why we are thankful to the airlines because they helped each other for the affected passengers,” said Secretary Lopez.
The DOTr assures the public that all affected aircraft are back in full compliance with operational standards, and the domestic air travel network is running smoothly.
