The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) of the Philippines proudly announces that the nation has successfully maintained its inclusion on the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) prestigious list of Member States that fully meet the minimum requirements for the issuance of Seafarers’ Identity Documents (SIDs).
This critical decision was made during the ILO Governing Body’s 355th Session in Geneva, following a rigorous review process. The confirmation underscores the Philippines’ robust adherence to the updated technical standards and processes mandated by the ILO Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention (Revised), 2003, as amended (No. 185).
A dedicated Review Group, composed of representatives from various international organizations and ratifying countries, conducted a thorough assessment of the Philippines’ procedures. The Group endorsed the nation’s continued compliance, with the ILO officially noting that the Governing Body approved the maintenance of the Philippines on the list of Members meeting the minimum requirements.
“This achievement is a clear testament to the Philippines’ unwavering dedication to the welfare and security of our seafarers,” said MARINA Administrator Sonia B. Malaluan. “Maintaining our status on the ILO list is not just a regulatory compliance matter; it is a validation of the integrity and trustworthiness of the Filipino seafarer identity documents globally. It reinforces our standing as the world’s leading supplier of competent and recognized maritime professionals.”
The continued inclusion ensures that Filipino seafarers benefit from streamlined international recognition of their professional identity, enhancing their mobility and employment opportunities worldwide. MARINA remains committed to continuously advancing its maritime practices in close partnership with international bodies to ensure Filipino seafarers are recognized and respected on every sea.
