Robinsons Malls honored at 2025 Quezon City Green Awards for leading climate resilience initiatives

Robinsons Malls, one of the Philippines’ largest and most dynamic shopping center operators, has been recognized for the second consecutive year at the prestigious 2025 Quezon City Green Awards. The esteemed recognition celebrates the company’s unwavering commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and actively promoting climate-ready communities across the city.

The award specifically highlighted forward-thinking initiatives that integrate sustainability with operational resilience, chief among them the Roots & Runoff: Robinsons Galleria’s Tree Planting and Flood Resilience Project. This groundbreaking project, centered at one of the mall’s flagship locations, serves as a model for how nature-based solutions (NBS) can be effectively deployed in dense urban environments.

The Roots & Runoff project utilizes strategic tree planting and permeable surfaces to:

Manage Stormwater: Increase rainwater absorption, significantly reducing surface runoff and mitigating the risk of localized flooding.

Combat Urban Heat: Provide essential urban canopy cover to lower ambient temperatures and improve air quality.

Enhance Urban Resilience: Support the long-term goal of making the surrounding community more adaptive to extreme weather events.

This newest recognition adds to Robinsons Malls’ growing roster of sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) achievements, underscoring a steady, progressive trajectory toward responsible and future-ready developments.

“This award from Quezon City is a tremendous affirmation that our strategy of embedding sustainability into the very core of our developments is effective,” said Joel Lumanlan, Vice President for Operations and Marketing,  Robinsons Malls. “The Roots & Runoff project is not just a ‘green’ initiative; it’s a critical investment in the safety and future well-being of the communities we serve. Robinsons Land continues to invest in initiatives that support safer, more adaptive communities as part of our unwavering commitment to building better lives.”

Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), the parent company of Robinsons Malls, views community resilience as a cornerstone of its corporate mandate. By integrating climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction strategies into its operations and community outreach, RLC aims to set the benchmark for sustainable property development in the Philippines.
