The vital importance of safe and ethical recruitment of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) was underscored today by Finnish Ambassador to the Philippines Saija Nurminen during the Philippine-Finland Friendship Week Mega Job Fair.
Held at the Megatrade Hall, SM Megamall, the job fair is a key part of Finland’s labor partnership with the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
Ambassador Nurminen emphasized that the cooperation goes beyond simply addressing labor needs, focusing instead on the holistic welfare of every migrant worker.
“It’s not simply about filling workforce gaps. It’s about ensuring that every worker, Finnish or Filipino, thrives in a safe, fair, and respectful environment,” said Amb. Nurminen. “It’s very important for us, and that’s why our cooperation with the Philippines emphasizes ethical recruitment, transparent processes, skills recognition, and also long-term career pathways.”
The Ambassador’s statement reinforces the commitment of both nations to upholding the highest standards of labor migration.
The job fair successfully advanced the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the DMW to provide OFWs with labor opportunities through safe and legitimate channels.
