The Port Management Office (PMO) Palawan officially welcomed the return of the cruise ship MV Costa Serena to the Port of Puerto Princesa early this morning. Arriving from Brunei at approximately 7:00 AM, the vessel’s visit marks its second docking in the Philippines, signaling a robust start to the province’s tourism calendar.
The Italian-flagged vessel arrived with a total of 2,945 passengers and 1,018 crew members. To celebrate their arrival, PMO Palawan and local partners organized a vibrant cultural showcase featuring performances by:
-
The Puerto Princesa City Band
-
Francisco Ubay Elementary School Drum and Lyre Corps
-
Banwa Dance and Arts
The visit is a significant milestone for Palawan’s maritime tourism. MV Costa Serena is the first of many high-profile vessels expected this year. According to the PMO, Puerto Princesa City is slated to host 21 cruise ship visits throughout 2026, including six maiden voyages from vessels making their inaugural calls to the city. “The arrival of MV Costa Serena underscores Puerto Princesa’s growing reputation as a premier destination for international cruise lines,” a representative from PMO Palawan stated. “We are prepared to provide world-class service and a warm Palawan welcome to every visitor who passes through our gates.”
The MV Costa Serena is scheduled to depart for Hong Kong later this evening. In keeping with the city’s hospitality, a grand send-off ceremony has been arranged. Passengers and crew will be treated to final performances by the Sta. Monica Elementary School Music Club and the Puerto Princesa City Choir before the ship weighs anchor.
The consistent influx of cruise arrivals is expected to provide a significant boost to the local economy, benefiting tour operators, artisans, and the hospitality sector across the city.
