PH maritime agencies gear up for compliance to IMO audit commitments

Key Philippine maritime agencies are assessing progress and validating implementation of measures to comply with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), through its Overseas Shipping Service (OSS), said it convened a two-day Inter-Agency Workshop on the Verification and Evaluation of the Corrective Action Plans (CAP) on the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS), from 10 to 11 February 2026 as part of its ongoing compliance efforts following the IMSAS audit in October 2023.

In her welcome remarks, MARINA Deputy Administrator for Planning, Ms. Nenita S. Atienza, underscored the importance of sustained inter-agency coordination in upholding the country’s international maritime obligations.

“This workshop marks the continuation of the collective work that began after the 2023 IMSAS audit. Together, we have developed corrective action plans and implemented concrete measures aligned with IMO instruments and international maritime standards,” she said.

Since the audit, participating agencies have undertaken comprehensive actions aimed at further reinforcing the integrity, effectiveness, and long-term sustainability of the Philippine maritime governance framework.

The Inter-Agency Workshop reaffirms the Philippines’ commitment to transparency, accountability, and sustained collaboration among maritime stakeholders in meeting global standards and strengthening the foundations of national maritime administration.

The Workshop brought together representatives from IMSAS member agencies including the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), MARINA, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), Cebu Port Authority (CPA) and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
