In a decisive move to bridge the digital divide and fulfill the national mandate for a digitally empowered citizenry, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Go Digital Pilipinas (GDP) officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement today. This partnership aims to synchronize government and private sector efforts to bring high-speed connectivity, digital literacy, and economic opportunities to every corner of the archipelago.
Aligned with the President’s recent directive to intensify the country’s digital evolution, the collaboration focuses on making innovation accessible not just in urban hubs, but specifically within underserved and rural communities.
The alliance is built on three strategic goals designed to transform the Philippine digital landscape:
-
Inclusive Innovation: Developing grassroots programs that provide MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) with the tools and platforms needed to compete in the global digital economy.
-
Infrastructure Synergy: Harmonizing DICT’s technical roadmap with GDP’s private sector resources to streamline the rollout of digital services.
-
Capacity Building: Launching nationwide digital literacy campaigns to ensure no Filipino is left behind by the rapid pace of technological advancement.
“Digital transformation is not a luxury; it is a fundamental right for every Filipino,” said DICT Secretary Henry Aguda. “By joining forces with Go Digital Pilipinas, we are ensuring that our digital infrastructure translates into real-world opportunities—creating jobs, enhancing education, and making government services more transparent and accessible.”
Atty. Mark Gorriceta, Chairman of Go Digital Pilipinas, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the role of the private sector in nation-building: “Our mission is to serve as the bridge between innovation and the individual. Together with the DICT, we are committed to building a digital ecosystem where every Filipino—regardless of location or socio-economic status—can thrive in a borderless economy.”
The signing ceremony held in Makati City marks the beginning of a series of joint initiatives, including localized “Digital Caravans” and the expansion of community-based Wi-Fi hubs. These efforts are expected to significantly boost the country’s digital competitiveness ranking and contribute to the overall growth of the Philippine GDP.
