Following the direct mandate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to prioritize the welfare of distressed overseas Filipinos, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac personally spearheaded the arrival honors and assistance distribution for 34 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who returned from Dubai earlier today.
The group arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) via Emirates Airlines Flight EK336. These workers, who had been previously stranded in the United Arab Emirates due to various employment and personal exigencies, were met by a dedicated team from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
Upon arrival, Secretary Cacdac ensured that every returnee received comprehensive “on-the-spot” assistance. This package includes:
-
Financial Grants: Immediate disbursement from the DMW AKSYON Fund to provide the workers with a starting capital for their return to their respective provinces.
-
Logistical Aid: Comprehensive airport assistance, including luggage handling and transport coordination.
-
Welfare Services: Access to the OFW Lounge for rest and refreshment while awaiting connecting domestic travel.
Among those welcomed today was Mary Joy Llagas, a Nursing Assistant who had been serving in Dubai. After navigating a difficult period of being stranded, Llagas expressed relief at the seamless transition provided by the department.
“The President’s instruction is clear: no OFW should feel alone upon returning home,” said Secretary Cacdac. “We awre here to ensure that the transition from being ‘stranded’ to being ‘home’ is handled with dignity, speed, and tangible financial support.”
Llagas is currently utilizing the amenities of the OFW Lounge as she awaits her domestic flight to Butuan City, which was also coordinated by the DMW to ensure her safe return to her family.
