PH commends Singapore for vital repatriation support of OFWs amid Middle East conflict

The Philippine government extended its profound gratitude to the Government of Singapore for its instrumental role in the successful repatriation of 24 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The mission highlights the critical cooperation between ASEAN neighbors during the ongoing regional instability in the Middle East.

Faced with severely limited flight availability due to the escalating conflict, the Philippine Consulate General and the Singapore Consulate General in Jeddah coordinated a joint operation to secure passage for the displaced workers. The OFWs were integrated into a Singapore-organized repatriation flight, ensuring their safe exit from the conflict-affected region.

The flight path from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines was facilitated through a key transit stop in Singapore:

  • Departure: 12 March 2026, 4:00 p.m. – King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah.

  • Arrival in Singapore: 13 March 2026, 6:00 a.m. – Changi International Airport.

Upon landing in Singapore, the OFWs were met by a coordinated task force including the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

To ensure the workers’ well-being and smooth transit, the agencies provided:

  • Immediate financial assistance to cover essential needs.

  • Logistical support for securing onward flight bookings to Manila.

  • Administrative guidance for reintegration processes.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) emphasized that this successful operation is more than just a logistical feat; it is a reflection of the deep-rooted “ASEAN spirit of solidarity.”  “We are deeply grateful to our Singaporean partners,” the DFA stated. “In times of crisis, the strength of our regional alliances is measured by our ability to protect one another’s citizens. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to the safety of all migrant workers.”

The Philippine government remains committed to monitoring the situation in the Middle East and ensuring the safety of all Filipinos still in the region.
