SSS partners with EastWest Rural Bank to launch first rural bank-issued MySSS card

The Social Security System (SS) has expanded its digital financial reach through a landmark partnership with EastWest Rural Bank (EWRB).

SSS President and CEO Robert Joseph M. de Claro and EWRB President Shiela Marasigan-Bajado recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA), formally designating EWRB as the first rural bank authorized to issue the MySSS Card.

This strategic collaboration aims to bridge the gap for members in unbanked and underserved communities, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. By transforming the traditional SSS ID into a high-functioning financial tool, the MySSS Card serves as a gateway to modern banking for millions of Filipinos.

The MySSS Card is designed to be more than just an identification card; it is a fully integrated debit card that streamlines how members interact with their benefits and personal finances. Key features include:

  • Faster Disbursements: Direct-to-card loading of SSS benefits and loans, eliminating the wait for checks or third-party couriers.

  • Universal Utility: Can be used for everyday digital payments, ATM withdrawals, and over-the-counter transactions.

  • Inclusive Banking: The card requires no maintaining balance, making it accessible to all income levels.

  • Wealth Building: Accounts earn interest starting at a low threshold of ₱500, encouraging members to grow their savings.

With EWRB’s robust presence of 112 branches and branch-lites nationwide, the partnership ensures that the MySSS Card is available where it is needed most. The initiative focuses on bringing “banking to the barrios,” ensuring that geography is no longer a barrier to secure financial services.

“This partnership is a pivotal step in our mission to provide world-class service to our members. By leveraging EastWest Rural Bank’s extensive network, we are making social security benefits not just a safety net, but a tool for financial empowerment,” said SSS President de Claro.
