Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) Secretary Arsenio M. Balisacan officially administered the oath of office to Mr. Reynaldo R. Cancio as the new Assistant Secretary of the Policy and Planning Group (PPG) on March 26, 2026.
The appointment comes at a pivotal time as the Department intensifies its efforts to streamline national development strategies. In his new role, Assistant Secretary Cancio will be instrumental in advancing the PPG’s mandate to deliver high-level, evidence-based policy advice to address the country’s most pressing economic and social challenges.
As Assistant Secretary, Mr. Cancio will provide strategic leadership and technical guidance across several key functions:

Policy Advocacy: Formulating objective, data-driven advice and exploring alternative policy frameworks for national development.

Critical Analysis: Reviewing existing government programs and proposing new initiatives through rigorous evaluation.

Legislative & Executive Liaison: Submitting critical findings and actionable recommendations to the President, Congress, and the Economy and Development (ED) Council.
