In direct response to severe traffic congestion affecting key corridors in the metro, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has successfully redeployed a massive fleet of government vehicle assets today to provide Libreng Sakay (Free Rides) for displaced passengers.
Following a directive from the President to prioritize commuter mobility and ensure the continuity of public travel, the DOTr is leading a whole-of-government approach. The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
To maximize coverage, the DOTr has also partnered with the Office of the President, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), the Philippine Army, the Department of Energy (DOE), and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Transportation Secretary Banoy Lopez emphasized that the government is operating at full capacity to bridge the transportation gap.
“We are committed to ensuring that no commuter is left stranded due to the current traffic situation,” said Secretary Lopez. “We have mobilized sufficient assets to support our riding public. The DOTr is immensely grateful to our partner agencies for their swift response. This unified effort is vital for our commuters.”
The free ride services will operate until 8:00 PM tonight, covering the following critical routes:
