President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday called on all Filipinos to actively participate in Earth Hour 2026, urging the public to adopt energy-saving practices and strengthen environmental responsibility in the face of pressing global challenges, including the ongoing energy crisis.
In a video message, the President extended his greetings to individuals, communities, and organizations nationwide joining the annual global initiative led by World Wide Fund for Nature.
“This year’s observance provides a timely and relevant opportunity for us to reflect not only on the issue of climate change and environmental preservation, but also on the urgent need to conserve energy and limit fuel consumption amid the current global crisis,” President Marcos said.
Highlighting the broader significance of the campaign, the Chief Executive emphasized that Earth Hour is more than a symbolic act—it is a call to action that underscores the collective impact of individual choices.
“Earth Hour reminds us that how we use energy affects us all. It reflects not only our present actions but also the kind of future we choose to build for our nation and our planet,” he added.
The President underscored that even small, everyday actions can contribute to meaningful change.
“The simple act of turning off our lights for one hour goes a long way,” he said.
With this year’s theme, “Switch on Habits for Earth,” President Marcos encouraged Filipinos to go beyond the one-hour observance and integrate sustainable practices into their daily lives.
“I invite every Filipino to participate in this cause and be inspired by the theme. May the true meaning of Earth Hour be part of our lives starting tonight,” he said.
He further called for unity and cooperation among communities to promote responsible and sustainable energy use.
“Let it guide our habits, inform our actions, and inspire cooperation among our communities,” the President noted.
Concluding his message, President Marcos expressed optimism for the country’s future, rooted in collective action and environmental stewardship.
“Together, let us ensure that the light of the Filipino spirit continues to shine with hope for a brighter future for all,” he said.
Earth Hour is a global grassroots movement observed annually, encouraging individuals, businesses, and governments to turn off non-essential lights for one hour as a symbolic gesture of commitment to the planet and a more sustainable future.
