Xiamen Airlines has officially resumed its Quanzhou–Cebu service with the arrival of Flight MF8695, marking a significant milestone in restoring direct connectivity between Cebu and Fujian Province, China. The reopening of this route underscores renewed momentum in tourism, business, and cultural exchange between the two regions.
The inaugural flight was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute upon arrival at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, followed by a ceremonial reception attended by key government and aviation officials. Among those present were Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, Consul General Zhang Zhen, MCIAA General Manager Julius Neri Jr., Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corporation General Manager for MCIA Ricia Montejo, Jinjiang Airport General Manager Yang Shanghua, Xiamen Airlines General Manager Hu Bin, and Lapu-Lapu City Tourism Chief Garry Lao, representing Mayor Cindi King-Chan.
The reinstatement of the Quanzhou–Cebu route is seen as a strategic step in reestablishing Cebu’s direct links to major Chinese cities. As China continues to be a vital growth market, the resumed service is expected to boost visitor arrivals, expand trade opportunities, and deepen cultural ties.
Industry leaders note that while this route marks a single reopening, it reflects a broader trend of rebuilding connectivity between Cebu and China. The development signals strong potential for additional routes to follow, further enhancing accessibility and regional cooperation.
With improved air links on the horizon, travelers and businesses alike are encouraged to explore new opportunities for engagement between Cebu and China.
